Getting braces is never easy. Sometimes a lot of people avoid getting them because of how unaesthetic the metal braces look. With the advancement in technology, the choices in braces have also increased. If you don’t wish to get metal braces, you no longer have to opt for them. There are many options which are available now. You can either choose ceramic braces or other invisible braces. We are here to help you decide the best option for you and tell you all about ceramic braces.

Why should you opt for ceramic braces?

One of the biggest reasons why ceramic braces are increasingly becoming a popular choice is because they are almost invisible. As the name suggests the ceramic braces are tooth-coloured and the wires are also tooth-coloured. This helps the braces to easily blend with your teeth, which makes them practically invisible. As the braces are made out of ceramic, they don’t interfere with the x-ray images of the teeth because of their non-metallic nature. Another advantage of this type of braces is that they ate more comfortable than conventional wired braces.

Does it hurt when you have ceramic braces?

When one thinks of braces, one start to think of the discomfort which is associated with them. However, when you have ceramic braces there is hardly any pain or discomfort is felt when they are being attached to your teeth. For the first few days after you get the ceramic braces, you might experience some discomfort. This discomfort is because the braces are working and forcing your misaligned teeth to move within the jawbone. The orthodontist will prescribe you some over the counter pain medication to help you be comfortable during this process. However, the pain and discomfort associated with ceramic braces are a lot lesser than metal braces.

What is the difference between ceramic and metal braces?

One of the drawbacks of getting ceramic braces is that they get stained over time. After a point, the staining can become too obvious. In such a situation, you would need to get them replaced with a new set of brackets. However, this problem doesn’t arise with metal braces. As ceramic braces tend to be larger than metal braces, it becomes harder to maintain optimal oral health with them. There is a higher chance of developing periodontal disease when you have ceramic braces on. Another disadvantage of ceramic braces is that they tend to be more expensive.

Why do the braces have the teeth feel loose?

Braces are put in place to move your teeth, so during the orthodontic treatment, teeth become slightly mobile. All the brackets contain the slot through a wire is passed to connect all the teeth. The wire is connected to the teeth with rubber ties or elastics. The tension in the wire is adjusted so that the pressure on the underlying wire supports the teeth. Due to this pressure, the jawbone starts to reabsorb and create a pathway for the tooth to move in the direction of the force.
