The Duane Reade/Walgreens on Ninth Avenue around West 44th Street commenced as an independent drug shop dating back to the mid-1980s. Now, it’s closing.
“It’s inhumane for the inhabitants of the community,” Stellas advised CBS2’s Dave Carlin.
Executives at Walgreens confirm the closing, expressing shoppers can shop at a quickly-to-open up, much larger sized locale on Eighth Avenue at West 44th.
Some say extra methods and unfamiliar staff members are bitter supplements to swallow.
“To walk there, it’s a minor little bit precarious,” Stellas explained.
“It’s going to be quite inconvenient,” Hell’s Kitchen area resident Rick Bogart stated.
The battle to keep the store open up has the support of State Sen. Brad Hoylman and other politicians, who signed a letter to the President of Walgreens, John Standley, and have not listened to again.

“This is a hometown pharmacy for 3,500 inhabitants who stay at Manhattan Plaza. We really do not want to see it moved,” Hoylman stated.
“This is just one of the closest ones,” resident Fumika Matsumoto reported. “It pops up when I was searching for the COVID vaccination.”
Time is jogging out. The retail store is scheduled to shut Nov. 18, and some residents, neighborhood activists and elected officials say if the retail outlet are unable to be saved, at least delay the closing.
“We have to have to notify our neighbors who depend on lifestyle-preserving prescription drugs from this pharmacy,” Hoylman claimed.
“We want that drug retail outlet to remain suitable where it is with the exact same personnel,” Hell’s Kitchen area District Chief Marisa Redanty mentioned.
CBS2 did not hear back again from Walgreens about what is motivating the move, but some staffers claimed off-digital camera concerns with rent are section of it.
Yolanda Mendez is a medical pharmacist at a distinctive unbiased pharmacy in Washington Heights and suggests at any time a pharmacy closes, it destroys significant associations.
“So it is not just offering their medications, it’s often providing the support, psychological aid that they can not get,” Mendez mentioned.
