Misaligned teeth can really have an impact on one’s self-esteem. It can hinder one’s beautiful smile. One of the best ways to deal with it is by getting braces. Getting braces is a huge step in itself. Even after having made that decision, it might seem quite daunting to get started. The very first step is to book a consultation. During your consultation, the orthodontist will carry out a thorough examination and provide you with treatment options. There are various braces you can choose from. You can go for traditional metal braces or clear braces. In this post, we are here to guide you through the process of getting braces.

Orthodontic Planning

There are a couple of tests that need to be done before planning the treatment. The records include photos, x-rays and impressions of the teeth. These models and scans will help in designing the new smile. It forms the backbone of the treatment plan. During this step, the different options of braces are available to you.

What braces are available for me in Midlands?

ClearSmile Brace: These braces are an amalgamation of traditional and new technology. What makes them different from traditional braces is the white coating. This white coating is made out of a material called Ni-Ti which has shape memory. Shape memory is a type of orthodontic wire which comes back to its original shape even after it has been bent. One of the best things about these types of braces is that very little force is used to move the teeth into the desired location.

Invisalign Aligners: It is a type of removable aligner which is made from transparent polymer. It is a time of invisible braces, so when you wear them they are almost not visible. When you opt for this type of straightening process, you are provided with multiple sets of aligners, which includes one for each jaw. You are required to wear each aligner for about 22 hours for 14 days. After 14 days you would have to switch to a new set of aligners.

Lingual Braces:  Lingual braces are similar to traditional metal braces. But what makes them different is the fact that they are attached to the inner surface of the teeth. This inner surface is known as lingual, hence, they are referred to as lingual braces.

How to take care of the braces?

When you opt for braces, you need to ensure that your teeth are clean. Otherwise, it can cause dental problems. Especially when you have clearsmile braces, it can discolour them. It is suggested that you brush your teeth 20 mins after you have eaten your food. This 20 min gap is necessary as your mouth has enough time to recover from an acid attack. You must be mindful about the brush that you choose. Make sure you use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste which has fluoride in it. While cleaning your teeth, place the brush between the teeth and the braces. However, in case you are out, you can always carry a mouthwash with you.
